Event Report: “Blue Boy Trial / ブルーボーイ事件” Screening & Talk with Director Iizuka Kasho

Date: 25 November 2025
Venue: TOHO Cinemas Nihonbashi, Tokyo

LLAN (Lawyers for LGBT+ and Allies Network) is pleased to report the successful screening of “Blue Boy Trial / ブルーボーイ事件”, followed by a post‑screening conversation with Director Iizuka Kasho.

The film traces a pivotal 1965 court case that challenged the legality of gender‑affirming surgery in Japan. As one of the first Japanese films directed by a trans filmmaker and main character casted by a trans actress, “Blue Boy Trial” marks an important milestone for trans visibility and for the broader LGBTQ+ community.

Following the screening, Director Iizuka joined us for a discussion, reflecting on the film’s historical context, the lived experiences represented on screen, and the ongoing work to advance dignity and equality for transgender community in Japan.

We welcomed 71 attendees and raised ¥49,700 in donations during the event. LLAN will donate the full amount to Pride House (Tokyo*) and ReBit, two local organizations supporting queer community work and LGBTQ+ youth education.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to HSF Kramer, Mori Hamada Matsumoto and Morgan Stanley, our partners and supporters who helped make this event possible and to all attendees who contributed to the conversation and to the donation drive.
